According to a Gallup poll, 70 per cent of people worldwide have lost their passion for work, and this applies to most people be they working for a start-up or a MegaCorp.
Perhaps as you are reading this, you may be able to relate to the feeling of having lost that spark or the inspiration which you were actually holding onto when you first started. However, you feel that the fire has slowly snuffed out. What seemed interesting and exciting no longer seem to trigger a desire for engagement.
1. The magic question to rekindle the flame
When we’re trying to reignite the spark, the question to ask is not “What inspires me?”. Instead, we ought to analyse “How did I lose my inspiration in the first place?”
By asking ourselves this question, it reveals the underlying root cause which has been slowly draining our inspiration over time. The reasoning behind this idea is simple: Rather than trying to dig new wells of inspiration (which is extremely hard), return to known wells of inspiration and try to refill them.
2. Go on a sabbatical
Even if you love your job to bits, it does not mean that you won’t be vulnerable to the physiological and psychological effects of stress. Such lack of energy and motivation will lead to the loss of interest towards your work. What’s worse, prolonged stress depletes the resources in your body, causing you to fall sick easily.
Like anyone who has fallen sick, the logical solution is to get rest to recharge yourself. Take your mind off work for an extended period (and don’t check your emails during the trip!)
3. Start your own business
There is an old saying that goes, “If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life.” Although the mantra could be debated, the phrase holds sentiments worth valuing and pursuing.
If you want to start doing what you love, pursuing your passion should be at the heart of your decision. Finding your passion and turning it into a thriving business could be a viable option to explore! Studies have shown that entrepreneurs who focused on their passions tend to be more successful and who knows? You could be en route to becoming the next Bill Gates.
